East Valley Favored To Land Berths For State Aa Cross Country Meet

Next Wednesday, Frontier League schools will compete for two team and 10 individual State AA cross country berths.

The district meet, at Hangman Valley Golf Course, begins at 11 a.m.

East Valley’s boys and girls teams are favored after completing unbeaten seasons on Thursday.

West Valley’s boys and girls will battle Riverside for the second berths. The Eagle girls beat Riverside to place second in league.

The Eagle boys lost to Riverside for second place, but senior Clayton Holmes and sophomore Sean McLachlan established themselves as individual district favorites following a one-two race finish.

University’s boys finished second with a 7-1 Greater Spokane League record, an improvement from last year’s 5-3 record.

The Titan girls placed third. Both will be involved in 18-team state qualifying meets next Saturday in Richland.

EV closing on volleyball title

With volleyball matches remaining against last-place Riverside and fifth-place Cheney next week, East Valley has all but secured its first Frontier League championship since 1990.

The Knights beat closest challengers Colville and Pullman to improve to 10-0 in league and open a two-game lead over the Greyhounds.

As league champion, the Knights will host the league tournament Nov. 8-9, which qualifies two teams to state.

WV-EV soccer rematch near

West Valley and East Valley appear headed for a rematch in the Frontier League soccer playoffs.

The 11-2 Eagles will likely finish second and 9-3-1 Knights will place third after Tuesday’s finales.

The two schools, who split their season series, met in the first playoff round last year, EV winning.

Punt, Pass & Kick winners

North Pines Junior High ninth-grader Sean Grady was one of four Spokane area winners in the NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass & Kick area competition sponsored by Spokane County Parks and Recreation.

Grady won the age 14-16 boys competition with a combined distance of 330-7.

Jeremiah Gibson won age 10-11 boys at 233-11. Tammy Addington won 14-15 girls at 250-11. Ali Holland won age 12-13 girls at 145-0.

Winners advance to state competition Nov. 3 in Seattle.

Painted Hills President’s Cup

During Painted Hills Ladies Golf Club President’s Cup competition, Joan McGee recorded overall low gross score of 45.

Net winner was Jane Dashiell with a 45.

Flight leaders were Margaret Bainter with gross 46 in A and Lori Gray with net 32 in A. Carol McLean won B with 45 and Nancy Mullenix netted 29.4.

C flight went to Margie Roark with 54 and Patty Spencer with 31.5 net. Ellen Spalding won D with 59. Lois Christenson and Judy Thies had net 32.5.

Closest to Pin winners were Tere VonMarbod and Dorothy Dinius. Accurate drives were won by Joan McGee and Shelly Van. Longest putt was sunk by Karen Hunt.

During a blind draw team tournament, Pat Crumpacker, Gray, Daryl Johnston and Dee Sindlinger beat Dashiell, Christenson, Karen Hunt and Marion McLellan 196.75 to 197.

Final outing at Liberty Lake

Five groups of golfers from the Liberty Lake Ladies 18-Hole Golf Club met for the last time this season.

They played a yellow ball tournament with the team of Billie Etter, Marion Jordan, Dorothy Womach and Cathy Whitley scoring 72 for the win.
