Supremacy Viewpoint To Be Topic
FOR THE RECORD (October 27, 1996): The Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, will speak in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane Nov. 1-3. The dates were incorrect in an article in Saturday’s InLife section.
“Genesis Through the Eyes of a White Supremacist” will be discussed today by Linda Schearing, assistant professor of Hebrew Scriptures at Gonzaga University. The workshop, part of the Catholic Diocese of Spokane’s Fall Congress, addresses the role that white supremacist groups take from the Book of Genesis.The daylong congress, “Out of Chaos … Grace,” begins at 8:30 this morning and continues until 4:15 at the Spokane Convention Center.
Other workshops for church patrons include “101 Creative Ideas for Catechists,” “The Journey After Baptism: Keeping the Faith Alive!” and “Spirituality for Today’s Youth.”
Registration is $30.
Show on St. Augustine
“The Confessions of St. Augustine,” a one-man show produced and performed by Oregon actor Leonardo Defilippis, will be presented at 8 p.m. next Saturday, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 219 E. Rockwood Blvd.
Defilippis, founder of Saint Luke Productions, is also known for “Troubadour for the Lord,” which he wrote and is based on the life of St. Francis of Assisi. The video production aired nationally and received a bronze medal at the New York International Film and Television Festival.
There is no admission fee Saturday, but a freewill offering will be taken. For more information, call Sacred Heart Church at 747-5810.
Seminar on grace
“Grace, Grace, Grace, Grace” is the subject of the Rev. Dan Erlander’s seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce.
Erlander, author of the book “Baptized We Live,” is pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church on Whidbey Island, Wash.
The seminar’s $5 registration fee includes lunch.
Erlander will also preach at a special service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Central Lutheran Church, 309 W. Fifth.
Priests for Life
The importance of human life, the pro-life movement and how to become involved will be discussed in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane this weekend by the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life.
Priests for Life is an association of Roman Catholic ministers who promote the sanctity of human life.
Pavone has appeared frequently on the Eternal Word Television Network, met with priests in India at the request of Mother Teresa, and spoken to the pro-life caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Pavone’s schedule:
Today: 5 p.m., youth rally; 7 p.m. Mass, St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft, Coeur d’Alene.
Saturday: 1-3 p.m., seminar, Gonzaga University’s Hughes Auditorium (Chemistry Building); 5 p.m., Mass, St. Paschal Roman Catholic Church, 2523 N. Park, Spokane.
Sunday: 8:30 and 11 a.m., Mass, St. Pius X; 1-3 p.m., workshop, St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church Center, 406 N. 10th, Coeur d’Alene.
There is no admission charge for any seminar.
Prayer for the nation
Thousands of Christians around the country will bow heads today in the second annual National Concert of Prayer, remembering especially the nation’s youths.
Last year’s concert took place in 163 cities.

Charismatic Mass
The Inland Empire Catholic Charismatic Service Team will present a charismatic Mass at 7 p.m., Friday, in the Student Chapel of Gonzaga University’s Administration Building. Music will be provided by Wings of Praise.
