Big Sky Singles Out Two Eagles
Eastern Washington players earned half the Big Sky Conference’s weekly football honors.
Running back Rex Prescott shared the offensive award with Montana quarterback Brian Ah Yat while the Eagles’ Maurice Perigo is the defensive player of the week.
Montana State punter Marc Bragg was also honored.
Prescott, a junior, gained 229 yards in total offense, including running for two touchdowns and 157 yards on 26 carries, filling in for injured regular Joe Sewell in the Eagles’ 31-17 win at Idaho State.
Perigo, a junior, recorded his fifth and sixth interceptions to earn his second defensive honor this season.
With his team holding a 12-3 lead in the first half, Perigo made an interception in the end zone after the Bengals had driven the length of the field. His second pick of the day came with 3:09 left and EWU leading 25-17. He returned it 47 yards to the Idaho State 11.
Three plays later, EWU sealed the win with a touchdown.
Ah Yat threw for 510 yards and four TDs in unbeaten Montana’s 48-32 win over Northern Arizona.
Dillon honored again
For a second consecutive week, Washington tailback Corey Dillon is the Pacific-10 Conference’s ofensive player of the week.
Dillon rushed 32 times for 259 yards and three touchdowns in Washington’s 33-14 victory at Oregon.
Southern Cal linebacker Sammy Knight, who recovered a late fumble, and R. Jay Soward, who returned the second-half kickoff for a TD, were honored for their play in the Trojans’ win at Washington State.
Cougars game time changed
Washington State’s football game at UCLA on Nov. 9 will be carried live on television by ABC.
Because of that, the game time has been switched to 12:30 p.m.
