Given Her Background, Mama Shouldn’t Preach
Madonna may have no qualms about baring her soul (or more) to the world, but when it comes to her baby, that’s a different story.
After “Hard Copy” aired video footage of the new mommy with daughter Lourdes Maria (apparently shot from a neighboring house), she fired off a statement that read:
“I’m fully cognizant that when one is a public figure, having one’s picture taken goes with the territory of fame. But when I’m in the confines of my own home, my sanctuary, I can’t help but feel violated by the invasion of my privacy …
“My daughter is not a public figure. She is a week-old child who does not deserve to be exploited this way.”
Replied a “Hard Copy “spokesman: “Quite frankly, we are surprised that Madonna is stunned by anything.”
Loose talk
Joan Collins, on which of her movies (“Decadence,” “Sins,” “Revenge,” “The Stud” and “The Bitch”) best describes her life (in Entertainment Weekly): “I’m not decadent. I’m not sinful. I’m not out for revenge. I’m not a stud. And I can occasionally be a bitch.”
If he’s not Michael, it isn’t really Jermaine
Randy Jackson turns 35 today.
Guess there’ll be a little less ‘ER’ on ‘ET’
George Clooney, upset over footage of him and his girlfriend that appeared on the Paramount-produced “Hard Copy,” says he will no longer talk to Paramount’s more legitimate “Entertainment Tonight” show. “At some point, you’ve got to say, ‘What are you in control of?”’ Clooney said in USA Today. “This is kind of a warning shot.”
In case you thought it was an immoral fiber
Woody Harrelson, who wants industrial hemp legalized as an alternative to cutting down forests to produce paper, presented a $500 prize Saturday to a Kentucky eighth-grader who won his hemp essay contest. “I learned that hemp can be used for about 25,000 different things,” said Jenny Kinchen. “It really isn’t the same as marijuana.”
But she was only famous for the first 15
Supermodel Kim Alexis was not only honorary chairman of a benefit 5-kilometer race in Buffalo on Sunday to help young people with drug problems, she ran - and won her age group, finishing in 22 minutes.
Well, hello, Dalai - and hello, dolly
And supermodel Naomi Campbell joined the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, as the co-host of a charity gala in the German city of Neuss over the weekend to benefit the children of the world.
Nothing but the sound of one glove clapping
Despite protests by Muslim leaders who denounced his music, Michael Jackson played to a sold-out soccer stadium Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. “How can Michael’s concert be immoral and have a bad effect on youth?” said one 17-year-old concertgoer. “If that is immoral, what about all sorts of things on Internet, movies and songs. Then everything should be banned and what would we have left?”
