Scams Rely On Calls To 809 Area Code

Watch out for any e-mails where you have to dial the 809 area code. Several scams are going around now.

They say you’ve won a prize or need to call an 809 number to settle a bill. Don’t do it.

The 809 area code is in the British Virgin Islands, and people who answer will try to keep you on the line, using broken English or pretending to not understand you. Charges can run up to $25 per minute.
