Playoff Berths On Line

The Inland Empire League football champion may have been crowned last week, but there is still much at stake in a league finale Friday.

A state playoff berth awaits the winner when Post Falls visits Sandpoint. Both teams are 7-1 overall, 2-1 in league.

The Intermountain League, meanwhile, has yet to crown a champion. But it will be the lesser of the popular regular-season finales that will decide the title-winner.

The St. Maries (6-2, 3-1) at Bonners Ferry (4-4, 3-1) game will attract more attention than Lakeland (2-6, 2-2) at Moscow (3-5, 2-2) - although both games will go far in deciding postseason participants.

To a degree, any how. No matter what happens, there will be a three-way tie for second and a playoff berth, requiring a mini-playoff. The playoff is scheduled for Tuesday, 6 p.m., at either Lake City or Coeur d’Alene.

The St. Maries-BF loser will join the Lakeland-Moscow winner and idle Kellogg (7-2, 3-2) in a second-place logjam.

In a game for strictly pride, Lake City is at cross-town rival Coeur d’Alene. Both teams are 3-5, 0-3.
