Tyson Thielman Gonzaga Prep Year: Senior Sport: Football Position: Rb
After careful consideration, the answer is warrior.
Don Anderson pondered what Tyson Thielman has meant to the Gonzaga Prep football team, tried several explanations and then came up with the description of warrior.
It’s a fitting depiction after Thielman rushed for 291 yards, the second-best in league history, in a 41-7 win over University last weekend.
“He was doing it in such small chunks, that talks about his consistency and durability,” Anderson said. “It also talks a little about our improved offensive line work, too.”
The most amazing thing, however, is that Thielman, a senior, was a linebacker until the second game of the season.
“I think I’m more patient now,” Thielman said. “Before, if the play went to the right, I just put my head down and went that way. It’s easier to read the blocks now. I definitely feel more comfortable back there now.”
In four of the five league games Thielman has been in the backfield, he has rushed for more than 100 yards.
“It’s quite an amazing story, where we started and where we are now,” Anderson said. “He really has responded. You can just see him get better and better… . That’s one of the real believe-it-or-not stories.”
