Landowners in the United States planted 1.7 billion trees last year that’s about 6.5 trees for every person in the country. About 85 percent of that total was on private land. … While that sounds pretty impressive, Jack Ward Thomas, chief of the U.S. Forest Service, notes that tree planting is declining in this country. Government estimates show that some 2.4 million acres were replanted in 1995, down about 1 million acres from 1988. Because of funding cutbacks, Thomas said, his agency has planted trees on only about 207,000 acres.

The city of Spokane has openings on three panels. The Human Services Advisory Board has one vacancy, the Housing Authority and Appeals Board has two vacancies and the Human Rights Commission has three vacancies. Applications for all positions are available in the mayor’s office, 3rd floor of City Hall. Deadline is Sept. 20.

Answer: Generally speaking, The Spokesman-Review and many other news media outlets in the area do not report bomb scares unless an actual device is found. Reporting about “pranks” sometimes encourages “pranksters” to try again.
