Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: On “Jeopardy!” a while back there appeared a Hints from Heloise category, which I enjoyed almost as much as I do your column. I was intrigued by one answer: “This ingredient in powdered lemonade mix is good for cleaning dishwashers.” The correct question was “What is citric acid?”
Now, I’m perplexed. Just how does one clean the dishwasher using powdered lemonade mix? Do we use the sugarless kind? - Trish Cleveland-Irving, Rochester, N.Y.
Put a tablespoon or two of powdered lemonade or orange breakfast drink that contains citric acid in the detergent dispenser (no detergent) and turn the dishwasher on. It doesn’t matter which type of powdered mix you use as long as it has the citric acid in it. If stains are stubborn, do it a second time. - Heloise
