Mariners’ Stadium Plan Advances

A site once proposed for a professional basketball complex was given final approval Monday as the place to build a baseball stadium for the Mariners.

The so-called Ackerley site was approved as expected on a 6-0 vote by the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District board after the state Supreme Court refused to block action by the panel.

“It has the greatest comparative opportunities for building an excellent ballpark,” board member Shelly Yapp said. “Site C requires the fewest compromises for the ballpark, for the Kingdome and for maintaining the character of the neighborhoods around it.”
