Flight Returns After Note Found On Plane

Compiled From Wire Services

A Chicago-bound American Airlines flight returned to Britain on Wednesday after a passenger found a threatening note in a seat pocket.

Flight 47 had departed London at 2:39 p.m. and was off the coast of Scotland when the pilot was alerted about the note and decided to interrupt the flight.

The Boeing 767 landed at an airport in Glasgow, Scotland at 5:35 p.m. The 179 passengers and 14 crew members were evacuated, airport spokeswoman Pamela McTaggart said.

Scottish police searched the plane and found nothing.

“Clearly, the incident was a hoax,” American Airlines spokesman Iain Burns said, adding that the airline would conduct an investigation.
