Obituaries

Albert Henderson Spokane

Memorial service for Albert C. Henderson, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Internment will be at Rosecrantz National Cemetery in San Diego, with military honors. An additional memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Fort Lewis Chapel in Tacoma. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Henderson, who was born in Portland, died last Saturday.

He served in the 35th Infantry Division of the Army during World War II and retired as a lieutenant colonel after more than 20 years in the Army.

He also worked for Boeing Co. for 14 years as an accountant and retired as an auditor for the state of Washington Fuel Tax Division.

He was a graduate of Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in finance at the age of 75.

Mr. Henderson worked for the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for eight years.

He received the 1996 Senior Citizen Volunteer Award for his contributions to his community.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ingrid; twin daughters, Verona Levine of Carlsbad, Calif., and Eva Ware of Cameron Park, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing or the American Cancer Association.

Gwendolyn Peterson Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Gwendolyn M. Peterson, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax.

Mrs. Peterson, who was born in Duluth, Minn., died Aug. 27.

She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Duluth, Minn., until 1947. She worked as a waitress and manager of both the Eagles and Elks clubs in Colfax.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Colfax, the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1967.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Peterson of Albany, Ore., and Barbara Dailey of Riddle, Ore.; two sons, Fraser Peterson of Dallas, Ore., and David Peterson of Albion, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Martin Wright Spokane

Service for Martin L. “Marty” Wright, 63, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment and graveside service with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Wright, who was born in Taylorville, Ill., died Thursday.

He was a retired Air Force technical sergeant.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Helen; two daughters, Colleen Toedtli and Vicky Wright, both of Spokane; four sons, James Wright, Eugene Wright and Waylon Wright, all of Spokane, and Randy Wright of Texarkana, Texas; two stepdaughters, Denise Timmins of Sharpsberg, Ga., and Catherine Vaughn of Spokane; a brother, James Wright of Deer Park; eight sisters, Betty Poirier of San Diego, Helen Grabney of Huntsville, Ala., Vicky Stromatt of Double Springs, Ala., and Daisy Shuman, Georgann Richard, Faye Clark, Jane Allison and Edna Wright, all of Decatur, Ill., a half-brother, Donald Coggins of Alabama; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Steven Young Spokane

Memorial service for Steven A. Young, 44, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in San Rafael, Calif., he died Tuesday.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was an Albertson employee for the past 18 years.

Mr. Young was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 2.

He is survived by his wife, Susie; a daughter, Dawnyel Howard of Santa Rosa, Calif.; his father, Don Young of Spokane; his mother, Dorothy Young of Vallejo, Calif.; and two sisters, Phyllis Callahan and Teri Gomer, both of Spokane.

David Coy Spokane

Graveside service for David J. Coy, 81, was Friday. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Coy, who was born in Dasdrop, Texas, died Monday.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked at Kaiser Aluminum as a crane operator.

A Catholic, he was a member of the Spokane Musicians Union, Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 6 and the United Steelworkers Union.

He is survived by two brothers, Victor Coy of Austin, Texas, and Jesus Coy of Houston, and a sister, Isabel Rangel of San Antonio, Texas.

Paul Roberts Spokane

Service for Paul M. Roberts, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Colfax Cemetery in Colfax, Wash. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Roberts, who was born in Colfax, died Wednesday.

He served in the Army during World War II and later worked as a contractor.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Fund.

Delia ‘Dillie’ Lang Spokane

Service for Delia “Dillie” A. Lang, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lang, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

She worked as a homemaker.

Her husband, Otto, died in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine White and Susan Fry, both of Spokane; two brothers, Carson Akre of Walla Walla and Eddie Aker of Spokane; a sister, Helen Binder of Greenacres; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Lewis Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial service for Mary L. Lewis, 80, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 40th and Bowdish in Spokane. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis, who was born in Gage, Mont., died Monday.

She worked as a billing clerk at Kaiser Aluminum before she retired in 1980.

Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Meadow Ward.

Her husband, Claude, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Chris O’Cell of Vancouver; two sisters, Ruth Symms of Spokane and Jean Low of Atascadaro, Calif., two brothers, Bill Stalwick of Spokane and Don Stalwick of Claremont, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

John Luppert Spokane

Service for John Luppert, 72, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Luppert, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

He served in the Army during World War II and later ran Luppert’s Clothes Store in the Peyton Building with his father. He played the drums for the Chet Griffith Orchestra at the Davenport Hotel and also played at local clubs with the Perry Pring Quartet.

Mr. Luppert was a member of the Rotary Club and the Westerners.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah, in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Mardi; two daughters, Sylvia and Eve Luppert of Seattle; two sons, Paul Luppert of Virginia Beach, Va., and John Luppert of Spokane; two stepsons, John Pring of Spokane and Michael Pring of Portland; a stepdaughter, Penny Given of Missoula; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Jazz Society.

Lala Holley Spokane

Memorial service for Lala M. Holley, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Holley, who was born in Edmonds, Wash., died Tuesday.

She worked as a music instructor for the piano and organ for several years in various cities.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Orville; a son, David Holley of Salem, Ore.; a daughter, Jody Lange of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Wilson DeLand of Bothell, Wash., and six grandchildren.

Charlotte Mauer Spokane

Memorial service for Charlotte M. Mauer, 52, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Private inurnment is at the cemetery. Thornhill Valley is in charge.

Mrs. Mauer, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Central Valley High School and was a homemaker.

Her husband of 33 years, James, died in April of 1996.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Mauer of Spokane; her mother, Lucille McCallum of Greenacres; and a brother, Jack Beams of Norfolk, Va.

Pearl (Haire) Russell Pullman

Family graveside service for Pearl C. (Haire) Russell, 89, will be held at a later date at Oakesdale, Wash. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Russell, who was born in Oakesdale, died Monday.

She graduated from Oakesdale High School and attended Cheney Normal School. She was a teacher and later became a homemaker.

Mrs. Russell was a member of the YWCA Auxiliary, the Ladies League of Hoquiam, Wash., Pullman Federated Garden Club, Pullman Women’s Golf Club, Pullman Nile Club, Cresent Chapter No. 53 of the Order of Eastern Star, American Association of Retired Persons, Pullman Senior Citizens and the Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, A.D. Russell, died in 1988.

She is survived by two sons, Earl Russell of Pullman and A. David Russell of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Frisby of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; five granddaughters and three great-granddaughters.
