Ncaa Backs Purdue

Compiled From Wire Services

The NCAA has shot down a report that it was investigating Purdue’s basketball program for possible violations.

Responding to a CBS Sports report, Purdue earlier denied that it had received a letter of inquiry, which would be a prelude to an investigation.

“I’ve seen some articles where Purdue indicated it had not received that letter, which is how we start an investigation, and I can confirm that’s correct,” said David Berst, the NCAA director of enforcement.

“All that means is there is no NCAA investigation.”

Rico Hines, who signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at UCLA last May, won’t be enrolling as a freshman this fall because of academic reasons, athletic director Peter T. Dalis said.
