Glen Dunkin Rathdrum, Idaho
Visitation for Glen W. Dunkin, 78, will be held today from noon to 7 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Prairie View Cemetery on Ramsey Road. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dunkin, who was born in Bellingham, died Monday.
He worked for the Army for 20 years, then lived for 12 years in Anchorage, Alaska. He moved to Hayden Lake in 1974 and recently moved to Rathdrum.
Mr. Dunkin was a member of the Hayden Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spokane Astronomical Society and the Farragut Flyers Model Airplane Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helen. Survivors include a son, David Dunkin of Rathdrum; three brothers, Lars Dunkin of Walla Walla, and Alan and Millard Dunkin, both of Chico, Calif.; a sister, Gwen Moyer of Mercer Island, Wash.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Edmund ‘Ed’ Hanna Sr. Clark Fork, Idaho
Memorial service for Edmund S. “Ed” Hanna Sr., 79, will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hanna, who was born in Long Island, N.Y., died Monday.
He graduated from Park Ridge High School in Park Ridge, N.J., and later played semi-professional football. He went on to work as a master machinist for the Dexter-Folder Co. in New York.
Mr. Hanna later began a career in construction, where he worked for 10 years. He moved to Clark Fork in 1960 and owned and operated the Lightning Creek Trailer Park until 1984.
He also worked for the Forest Service and the Idaho State Highway Department for more than 19 years, retiring in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane.
Survivors include four sons, Edmund Hanna Jr. of Texas, Paul Hanna of Hayden Lake, David Hanna of Coeur d’Alene and Richard Hanna of Clark Fork; a daughter, Linda Jane Hanna of Sandpoint; a brother, Harvey Hanna of New Jersey; and a sister, Laura Bouten of New York.
Ernest Zemke Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Ernest W. Zemke, 81, will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Private family burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will follow later at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd. in Spokane. Mr. Zemke, who was born in Chicago, died Monday.
He graduated from high school in Chicago and was drafted into the Army in 1942, serving with the 341st Army Engineers working on the Alcan Highway and later in the South Pacific building airstrips.
He received a military discharge in 1946 and moved to Spokane in 1958 where he worked for Miller Dental Lab from 1958 until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Zemke was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joan; four sons, Frederick and William Zemke, both of California, Norman Zemke of Seattle and Steven Zemke of Post Falls; a daughter, Gretchen Wonser of Marysville, Wash.; a brother, Harry Zemke of Cody, Wyoming; sister, Elynor Chalberg of Illinois; and 12 grandchildren.
Lula McCaw St. Maries
Service for Lula McCaw, 86, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. McCaw, who was born in Alberta, died Monday.
She graduated from high school in 1927 and went on to attend Provincial Normal School in Calgary where she received her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Alberta.
She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1930 before moving back to Canada in 1932, where she was a homemaker. She returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1954 and moved to St. Maries in 1995.
Mrs. McCaw was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 1966.
She was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include a son, Don McCaw of Harrison; a daughter, Zella Green of St. Maries; a brother, Lawrence Cummins of Alberta; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pearl Albert Viola, Idaho
Service for Pearl G. Albert, 63, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Southern Baptist Church in St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Albert, who was born in Sandpoint, died Tuesday.
She grew up in St. Maries and moved to Viola, where she was a farmer and homemaker. She later worked for the C&M Cafe, Pat and Scott’s Restaurant and the Handi Corner Store in St. Maries.
She worked for Valley Vista Convalescent Center from 1968-70, and for the Benewah Community Hospital during the early 1970s. Mrs. Albert recently worked for H&R Block Co.
She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church and was past president of the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin; three sons, Jack and Floyd McPherson, both of St. Maries, and Sherman McPherson of Lewiston; three daughters, Phyllis Dodge of St. Maries, Hazel Krull of Springdale, Wash., and Nancy Sullivan of Tillamook, Ore.; four sisters, June Merrill of Nevada, Jesse Sullivan of Coeur d’Alene, Mary Richardson of Spokane and Mable Bates of American Falls, Idaho; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Warren ‘Doc’ Harman Moscow, Idaho
Graveside service for Warren J. “Doc” Harman, 91, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rosalia, Wash. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harman, who was born in Mabton, Wash., died Tuesday.
He grew up in the Oakesdale, Wash., area and graduated from Rosalia High School in 1922. He went on to attend the Cheney Normal School and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho in the late 1920s. He began teaching at Wilson Creek, Wash., and was later named principal.
He continued his education at the University of Chicago and received a degree and license to practice as a chiropractor. He had lived in Oregon, North Dakota, South Dakota, Spokane and Harrison, Idaho, before settling in Moscow in 1958.
He also received a master’s degree in natural science from the University of Idaho and several other degrees from professional trade journals and correspondence schools.
Mr. Harman practiced as a chiropractor in several small clinics and successfully passed the physician’s licensing exam in Arizona at the age of 64. During his teaching career, Mr. Harman also taught biology at Moscow High School.
He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a 50-year member of the Harrison Chapter of the Masonic Lodge.
He moved to the Moscow Care Center two years ago.
Mr. Harman was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Merle.
Survivors include a son, Roger Harman of Cheney; a daughter, Nancy McConnachie of Moscow; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ensor Bush Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Ensor Elmer Bush, 90, will be held later in Oregon. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Bush, who was born in Westfall, Ore., died Monday.
He worked as a rancher/farmer in Oregon, and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1993 to be near family. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Verlee; two sons, E. Ervin Bush of California and Lloyd Bush of North Carolina; one daughter, Erna Headrick of Hayden, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pearl Callahan Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Pearl R. Callahan, 82, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry. Internment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.
Mrs. Callahan, who was born in Kamiah, Idaho, died Monday.
She attended schools in Idaho and Montana and later lived in the Grand Coulee and Wilbur areas in Washington before moving to Bonners Ferry in 1952.
Mrs. Callahan worked at Taft’s Variety Store for 13 years before opening her own shop, The Twi-Lite Gift Shop.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 44 years and also belonged to local crafts clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence. Survivors include a son, Eugene Callahan of Nevada; a daughter, Irene Lake of Utah; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
