Pay For Tips Increases
Idaho’s Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) paid more for tips on poachers in the fiscal year that ended in July than in the past two years.
CAP paid rewards totaling $19,300 in 1995-96. The toll-free hotline system received 319 calls resulting in 97 cases being made by Idaho Fish and Game Department enforcement officers and 179 citations being issued. Civil penalties of $21,960 were paid by violators of wildlife laws in addition to $26,790 in fines.
Rewards for tips leading to convictions can be paid anonymously. Calls to the CAP hotline also can remain anonymous. The number is (800) 632-5999.
Reward funds come mostly from donations made when hunters apply for controlled hunts.
