Sore Back Won’t Keep Elway Out
Although he sat out Wednesday’s practice with a sore back, Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway insists he will play on Sunday at Cincinnati.
Elway, already bothered by a sore throwing elbow, has been receiving treatment this week for tightness in his back. He watched Wednesday’s practice from the sideline.
“He’s had treatment for three days and is certainly improved,” trainer Steve Antonopulos said. “It was a lighter practice day, and we just decided to give it some time. It’s certainly not a significant deal.”
Antonopulos said back strains come in three degrees, third being the worst, “and this isn’t even a first.”
“My back was a little stiff,” Elway said. “They gave me an extra day. I’ll be practicing (Thursday).”
In 14 seasons, Elway has missed only nine games because of injury.
