Mccrary Likely To Leave
The Baltimore Ravens offered Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael McCrary a four-year, $8 million contract that he might sign today. McCrary and his agent, Michael George, will fly to Baltimore this morning to put the finishing touches on a deal that will pay him a $1.8 million signing bonus and offers $700,000 of additional incentives.
Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly has joined NBC Sports as a football analyst. Along with Kelly, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, ex-New Orleans Saints coach Jim Mora and former receiver James Lofton will be analysts on NBC broadcasts.
National Football League Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said the league might ask out of its labor contract with the players union because of escalating costs, a move that could affect the 2001 season. The agreement between the league and players was signed in 1993 and runs until 2000 with both sides having the option to extend it for two more seasons until 2002.
Leroy Hoard, who revived the Minnesota Vikings’ running game after they resuscitated his career last season, agreed to a $1.6 million, two-year contract.
Defensive end Al Fontenot joined the Colts with a four-year contract, a move that could mean Indianapolis fixture Tony Siragusa will not return. Fontenot, a 6-foot-4, 277-pound unrestricted free agent, spent his first four years in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.
