Mead Debate Team Wins State Speech Tournament
The Mead School Debate Team won the sweepstakes trophy at the AAA State Speech Tournament at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. The contest was sponsored by the Washington State Forensic Association.
The winning students listed below are from Mead, unless otherwise noted.
Expository speaking: first place: Kelli Vail; fourth place: Sudha Nandagopal.
Dual interpretation: first place: Jamie Moshin and Derek Farmer; fourth place: Adam Franke and Matt Willms, both Central Valley High School.
Extemporaneous speaking: second place: Jesse Driscoll; third place: Ben Voight; fourth place: Jeff Hubbard and Jeff Roberson.
Interpretive reading: fourth place: Andy Wilson.
Oratory: first place: Meena Nandagopal.
Humorous interpretation: third place: Susan Martin.
Impromptu: first place: Becky Gaffney-Brown, Gonzaga Prep; third place: Jesse Driscoll; fourth place: Ben Voight and Jeff Hubbard.
Dramatic interpretation: fourth place: Meena Nandagopal.
Christina Keneally, Greenacres, was named to the Dean’s List for fall semester at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keneally.
Winners of the McCollum Ford coloring contest for children up to 12 years old were recently announced.
The winning artists, selected from hundreds of entrants, and their prizes, are:
First place: Shantel Hagen, 9 years old, a trip for four to Disneyland.
Second place: Alex Brudnicki, 9, a bicycle.
Third place: Tanner Wakem, 6, and April Winters, 9, $100 gift certificates.
Three Washington State University faculty members were honored as Faculty of the Year by the WSU chapter of Mortar Board, a national college senior honor society.
Patricia Diaz, assistant professor of hotel and restaurant administration, has been at WSU eight years.
John Crane, professor of zoology and biological sciences, joined the WSU faculty in 1970.
Tom Ruff, professor of education, has been a faculty member since 1968.
