John Mcdonald Greenacres

John G. McDonald turned 100 years old Friday.

Mr. McDonald, a 47-year Greenacres resident, was born in Barre, Vt., on April 4, 1897. He moved to the Northwest 60 years ago.

He was a stationary steam engineer at Darigold Inc., before retiring in 1967 to start his own commercial refrigeration repair service and to teach steam engineering at Spokane Community College. He was 92 when he retired from his repair business.

Mr. McDonald and his first wife, May, were married 54 years before her death in 1980. He and Vi married 12 years ago.

He has two children, Joyce Bagdon of Spokane and Kenneth McDonald of Kirkland, Wash. He also has nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mr. McDonald attributes “God’s grace” to his long life.
