Esiason Returns To Bengals

Compiled From Wire Services

The Cincinnati Bengals announced they have signed quarterback Boomer Esiason to a two-year contract, terms of which were not disclosed.

Esiason, 35, played for Cincinnati from 1984 to 1992 and was selected as the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1988, when the Bengals won the AFC championship and made it to Super Bowl XXIII, where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Longtime Houston Oilers cornerback Cris Dishman signed a four-year deal with the Washington Redskins while the team continued to bolster its secondary by signing safety Jesse Campbell.

Dishman’s deal includes a $2 million signing bonus, and will count $1.7 million toward the salary cap in 1997. The total contract is worth “in the vicinity” of $10 million, said a source close to the negotiations.

Campbell, who turns 28 this week, signed a three-year, $1.9 million contract.
