Lcsc Professor A Pulitzer Finalist

A Lewis-Clark State College professor’s memoir of growing up in north central Idaho was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Kim Barnes teaches literature and language at the Lewiston college. She and her husband Robert Wrigley, also a well-known Idaho writer, live in Lenore, a small community along the Clearwater River east of Lewiston.

Her memoir, “In the Wilderness: Coming of Age in Unknown Country,” was among three books a jury recommended for the Pulitzer. Barnes’ memories of being raised in an Idaho timber community has been widely praised in literary circles.

“Angela’s Ashes: A Memoir,” by Frank McCourt won the arts biography Pulitzer. The other finalist in that category was “Herman Melville: A Biography, Volume 1, 1819-1851.” , DataTimes MEMO: Cut in Spokane edition
