Oregon Selects Kent

Ernie Kent, a member of Dick Harter’s “Kamikaze Kids” Oregon basketball team of the 1970s, will be named head coach of the Ducks, sources close to the situation said.

Kent, head coach at Saint Mary’s the past five seasons, will be the first black head coach in any sport at Oregon.

Earlier, Blaine Taylor withdrew from consideration after Montana, where he has coached since 1991, had promised to negotiate a long-term contract for more money.
