Clarabelle Prohosky Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Clarabelle A. Prohosky, 84, will be today from 5-8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Prohosky, who was born in Minnesota, died Monday.

She grew up in Minnesota and received a teacher certificate at Moorehead State Teachers College.

Mrs. Prohosky taught in Minnesota before moving to California, where she worked for the state Bureau of Adoptions.

She moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1979, and was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1971. Survivors include her son, Steve Prohosky of Coeur d’Alene; and two sisters, Bernice McAmis of Arlington, Wash., and Drusilla Katz, of Minnesota.

Marihazel Porter Spokane

Service for Marihazel Porter, 50, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Porter, who was born in Orofino, Idaho, died Monday.

She had worked as a bookkeeper for Northwest Bedding for 13 years.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Pat; a son, Pat Porter Jr. of Colville, Wash.; two daughters, Shelly Smith of Ione, Wash., and Melissa Gillen of Fort Hood, Texas; her parents, Everett and Hazel Freeman of Orofino; two brothers, Fenton and Tommy Freeman, both of Orofino; a sister, Sharon Brown of Weippe, Idaho; and six grandchildren.

Virgil ‘Red’ Moss Post Falls, Idaho

Graveside service for Virgil “Red” Daniel Moss, 88, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Moss, who was born in Fairfield, died Tuesday.

He graduated from the University of Idaho with a master’s degree in forestry and retired from the Forest Service after 35 years. He worked in forest plant pathology, forest ecology, and was chief of development and research in the blister control section. He was a scientist-research forester and also held positions in the bureau of entomology and plant quarantine.

His wife of 63 years, Ruth, preceded him in death.

Mr. Moss was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Gary Moss of Spokane; a daughter, Barbara Wardsworth of Harrison, Idaho; a brother, Richard Moss of Spokane; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Lydia Anton Spokane

Graveside service for Lydia Anton, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall, 1802 N. Raymond Road, in Spokane. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Anton, who was born in Tula, Ukraine, died Monday.

She fled to Germany during World War II and came to the United States in 1957.

She was a member of the University Congregation.

Survivors include two sons, Ray and Michael Anton both of Spokane; a daughter, Efenia Zerbin of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Donald Williams Spokane

Service for Donald E. Williams, 79, is noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Williams, who was born in Ritzville, Wash., died Monday.

He worked for Consolidated Freightways as a driver for about 30 years.

Mr. Williams was a member of Hillyard Baptist Church, Fourth Memorial Church and retired Teamsters No. 690.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; three daughters, Donna Lund of Winnett, Mont., Anita Donahue of The Dalles, Ore., and Betty Raab of Federal Way, Wash.; two sons, Roger Williams of Portland and Terry Williams of Salem, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Sandra Linse of Yakima, Karen Liljegren of Bremerton and Heidi Wohl of Greenacres; three brothers, Gerald Williams of Vinton, Va., Marvin Williams of Kent, Wash., and Lester Starkey of Spokane; 13 grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Agnes Sindelar Sandpoint

Service for Agnes Ora Sindelar, 96, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Interment will take place at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sindelar, who was born in Park Rapids, Minn., died Monday.

She moved to Montana in 1910 and moved to Laclede, Idaho, in 1917.

Mrs. Sindelar worked for the Frame Factory in Laclede during World War I, and in 1922 moved to Dover, Idaho.

She worked as the assistant postmaster in Dover and operated the General Store and Service Station before retiring in 1965.

Mrs. Sindelar was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sandpoint and several social clubs in Dover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill.

Survivors include four daughters, Lorna (Glazier) Diebert of Laclede, Betty Ballou of Chehalis, Wash., Velma Joyce Oliver of Anchorage, Alaska, and Wilma Oliver of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgrandson.

Ina Mae Compton Potlach, Idaho

Memorial service for Ina Mae Compton, 88, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Potlatch Community Presbyterian Church in Potlatch. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Compton, who was born in Granite, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She was a graduate of Potlatch High School and worked as a sales clerk at the Potlatch Mercantile, and then at the Potlatch confectionery as a waitress.

Mrs. Compton was a member of the Royal Neighbors and Potlatch Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Earl, died in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Compton of Coeur d’ Alene and Bob Compton of Spokane; two sisters, Eleanor Larkin of Tigard, Ore., and Margaret Peterson of El Sobrante, Calif.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local Home Health Hospice program.

Mona Bailey Athol, Idaho

Memorial service for Mona Lisa Bailey, 46, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Yates Hayden Chapel and Gathering Center. Mrs. Bailey, who was born in Newberg, Ore., died Monday.

She grew up in Newberg and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969.

In 1973 she moved to Tualatin, Ore., and worked as a secretary at the Oregon Credit Union League before moving to Hayden, Idaho, in 1994, where she was president of Northern Security Services Inc.

Mrs. Bailey moved to Athol in 1995 and was honored as a Professional Business Woman by Who’s Who in America for 1996-97.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Kent; two sons, Kent Jr. and Brett Bailey, both at home; her parents, Rolland and Sybil Banta of Oregon; and two sisters, Sharon Banta and Roxanne Stewart, both of Oregon.

Esther Ellis Spokane

Service for Esther Ellis, 89, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ellis, who was born in Spring Lake, S.D., died Monday.

She worked as a nurses aid at Riverview Care Center and was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Nora Atkinson of Spokane; a sister, Ethel Moen of Arlington, S.D.; and a brother, Ralph Jenson of Glen Flora, Wis.

Merle Swenson Weyerhauser, Wis.

Visitation for Merle Swenson, 79, will be held Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Swenson, who was born in Minnesota, died Sunday.

He worked in the Idaho timber industry as a logger and then for a railroad for one year before working for 25 years at the Kootenai County Highway Department. He retired in 1994.

Mr. Swenson moved to Weyerhauser in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1974.

Survivors include two brothers, LeRoy Swenson of Coeur d’Alene and Kenneth Swenson of Weyerhauser; a sister, Shirley Bednarek of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna McShirley Coeur d’Alene

Private commital for Anna LaVella McShirley, 69, will be held at a later date at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McShirley, who was born in Hammond, Ind., died Wednesday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Indiana, and in 1947, moved to California.

Mrs. McShirley worked for Mayfair Markets for 25 years. She retired and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1977.

Survivors include her husband, Donald; three brothers, Raymond Stamper of Indiana, Merrill Stamper of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Rev. Larry Stamper of California; and a sister, Bonnie Clark of Coeur d’Alene.

Rose Mace Spokane

Service for Rose A. Mace, 70, will be at 3 p.m. today at the Central Baptist Church. A private inurnment will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Troutville, Va., Mrs. Mace died Friday.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Kenneth; a daughter, Carolyn Williams of Spokane; a stepson, Larry Mace of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Linda Carter of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, James Robertson of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Memorial Fund or to Multiple Sclerosis-Inland Northwest Chapter.

Flora Quaintance-Hiett Spokane

Memorial service for Flora R. Quaintance-Hiett, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home. A private interment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Quaintance-Hiett, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

She worked as a secretary for Sears for more than 24 years, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Quaintance.

She is survived by her husband of 12 years, John; three sons, Larry, Ron and Robert Quaintance, all of Spokane; a sister, Patricia Nelson of Spokane; and 13 grandchildren.
