Man Charged In Theft Of Wallet
Spokane police arrested a man they believe stole an elderly man’s wallet after claiming to be a security officer.
Antonio D. Green, 42, was booked on charges of theft, two counts of forgery, criminal impersonation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A man who police say looked like Green approached an 80-year-old who was returning home from grocery shopping Friday. The man demanded to see the elderly man’s driver’s license, police said, and accused the shopper of not paying for his groceries.
The elderly man gave the impersonator his wallet, and the man jumped into the passenger side of a nearby car and it sped away. The wallet had several credit cards and some cash in it.
Just before midnight, police found that one of the stolen cards had been used at the Thunderbird Inn to rent a room. Officers found Green and another man there, along with the credit card and receipts for merchandise purchased with it. They also found two crack pipes.
Police are investigating a similar robbery Thursday, where a man who claimed to be taking a survey knocked down an 85-year-old, threatened to kill him, then took some money and fled.
