Ferris’ softball team has skyrocketed from last place in the Greater Spokane League to third place in a matter of five days.
Jenny Lytle hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Kylee Curry won her fourth game in five days as visiting Ferris defeated Shadle Park 9-6 Saturday.
Both teams are 4-3, tied with Mead and Central Valley for third place. Ferris began the year 0-3 after leading all three games.
Ferris’ Amanda Ovlen hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Shadle walked 10 Saxons, five of whom scored.

Tarrah Brown threw a seven-inning one-hitter in the opener, and combined with Melissa Wollan on a five-inning one-hitter in the second game as the second-place Indians (6-1) swept the visiting Bantams (2-5) in the Frontier League.
Rachel Cox hit a fifth-inning three-run homer in the opener and Brown struck out 13. Mandy Lawson had two RBIs in the second game.

In order, Beeler had a ground-rule double, tripled to right, homered to left, walked and singled.

Chris Eggleston and Eric King both threw no-hitters, and the Cougars (5-1) turned three double plays during an NEA sweep of the visiting Bulldogs (3-3).

Lewiston’s boys and East Valley’s girls came away easy winners in the meet at the University of Idaho.
Lewiston’s depth and sprinters led to 143.5 points and a win over 14 boys teams.
EV’s girls used their depth in the distances to post 121 points. Orofino was next with 70 and Post Falls third with 67.
Brad Rice won the 200-meter run in 23.29 seconds; David Taylor set a meet record in the 3,200 (10:11.2); Mickey Hewitt captured the 300 hurdles (42.51); and Rick McCrery won the long jump (21 feet, 3/4 inches) for Lewiston.
Matt Hill of Grangeville (172-6 discus) and teammate Ryan Carver (1:56.35 in the 800, 4:29.26 in the 1,600) set meet records.
Korinda Godwin in the 3,200 (12:24.76) and Ann Marie Adams in the 800 (2:26.07) won for EV.
