Navy Cites Gary L. Pray For Superior Performance
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Gary L. Pray, son of Gary and Nell Pray of St. Maries, has received a Letter of Commendation while assigned at Fleet Training Center, Naval Station in San Diego.
Pray was cited for superior performance of duty, displaying remarkable dedication and initiative, and consistently performing demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.
Army Pvt. Shannon L. Callihan, a 1996 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, has graduated from the motor transport operator course at Fort Leonardwood, Mo.
Callihan, daughter of Dori Bateman of Port Angeles, Wash., and the late Gary C. Callihan of Coeur d’Alene, received training in light and heavy military vehicle operation and maintenance, and instruction in transportation of personnel, equipment and supplies.
Army Pvt. Bryan J. Teal, son of Jay and Prudie Teal of Hayden, has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Sill, Okla.
Teal completed Advanced Individual Training and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, tactics, military courtesy, justice, history and tradition, and map reading.
He was educated in maintenance, preparation and loading of firing ammunition, operation and performance maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled howitzers and ammunition vehicles, and crew maintenance performance, and organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment.
Students also gained instruction in establishing and maintaining radio and wire communications.
Cadet Justin DeArmond, a 1996 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, recently took part in the annual Plebe-Parent Weekend at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York.
DeArmond, son of Mike and Becky DeArmond of Hayden Lake and one of more than 1,000 plebes (freshmen) at the academy, invited his parents, friends and relatives on a tour of the grounds to meet with staff and faculty members and learn first-hand about the regimen followed by the academy’s newest cadets.
He plans to graduate in the year 2000 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.
