Shields, Agassi Get Married

Game, set, match. Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields are now husband and wife.

With helicopters buzzing the rust-colored chapel and dozens of law enforcement officials standing guard, the tennis star and the actress were married Saturday before some 100 guests.

“Both are the nicest unassuming kind of people,” said the Rev. Jerome Politzer, who attended the service. “They were very simple, straightforward and kind.”

The couple exchanged vows at 6:45 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Chapel before the Rev. Charles Gard, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale.

The chapel, nestled in pine and oaks trees, was cordoned off with yellow police tape. Four helicopters filled with paparazzi hovered outside.

The Monterey Herald reported that Shields wore a long white dress with a 5-foot train. Her three bridesmaids wore long, gold strapless dresses. A string ensemble and the San Francisco Boys Choir performed.

Shields, 31, is the star of the NBC comedy “Suddenly Susan.”

Agassi, 26, has won three Grand Slam tournaments - the Australian Open (1995), U.S. Open (1994) and Wimbledon (1992) - but his play has slumped of late. He won the gold medal for the United States in the Olympics last summer.
