When Spade Sees One, He’s Not Afraid To Call It
It’s not easy being a straight white male comedian with an attitude, says David Spade.
Spade, now co-starring in the sitcom “Just Shoot Me,” says one reason he left “Saturday Night Live” was “the politically correct world we live in. I just can’t deal with it. I’m gonna get in trouble, offend the wrong people and get banned.
“I mean, Mel Gibson had to go back to GLAAD (the gay-rights organization) and hold a supper with them,” he says. “That’s fine, but are you really that much of a hostage to all these different groups? And there are like 300 groups you can’t offend. Everyone takes themselves so seriously.”
The bottom line, he says: “I’m a white, single heterosexual who makes a decent living, so I have no defense. I’m in no group that is living in pain, so I can’t say anything. I have to sit back and take the hits for everyone’s problems. And it’s not my fault.”
Loose talk
Howard Stern, on his hopes for his daughters (in US magazine): “I’d be happy if they turned out to be lesbians.”
You’ll not see nothing like the 90s, Quinn
Anthony Quinn turns 82 today.
In other words, he’ll still be playing Fox for Fox
David Duchovny has signed for a reported $4 million to do a movie version of the Fox TV series “The X-Files” for 20th Century Fox. No word on the cinematic status of co-star Gillian Anderson, who gets half his $100,000 paycheck per small-screen episode.
A P.I.? Well, she’s certainly P.O.’d enough people
Former “Beverly Hills, 90210” on- and off-screen brat Shannen Doherty, who insists she’s all grown up these days, is returning to Fox in a series about hip private investigators.
Maybe Jane Fonda could give her some tips
Teri Hatcher, who plays the Man of Steel’s squeeze in ABC’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” is about to become the latest “Bond girl.” Hatcher is set to co-star with current 007 Pierce Brosnan in the upcoming “Tomorrow Never Dies,” playing the wife of villain Jonathan Pryce, an evil media mogul.
Perhaps, Tyra, you would like to demonstrate
If your girlfriend is a model (a common situation, no doubt, among male People column readers), what’s the best way to treat her? Take if from supermodel Tyra Banks, in Details magazine: “Don’t tell her that she’s beautiful when you see her at work, because then she thinks you’re talking to the model. Tell her when she comes out of the shower.”
Well, what would you expect from the King of Pop?
None other than Michael Jackson will soon be peddling a peach-flavored soda, called Mystery, to European customers. Says the gloved one: “Mystery contains my own recipe for health to keep you looking good.”
