Wally Albert Granite City, Ill.

Memorial service for John Wallace Roland “Wally” Albert, 83, will be at 2 p.m. May 6 at the Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Albert, who was born in Milltown, Mont., died April 16.

He was a former longtime Spokane resident and worked as a piano tuner. He worked out of his home and had worked on several celebrities’ pianos, including Liberace’s, during one of his visits to Spokane.

Mr. Albert moved to Granite City in 1987 after his wife, Imogene (Inman) Albert, died.

He married Julia Stewart in Illinois seven years ago.

Mr. Albert is survived by his wife; three daughters, Vivian Farr of Roseburg, Ore., Yvonne White of Granite City and Darlene King of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Gail Huggins of Granite City, Darlene Pitts of Sand Springs, Okla., and Doris Strong of Paducah, Ky.; four stepsons, James and Don Stewart, both of Granite City, Roger Stewart of Medora, Ill., and Tom Stewart of Triangle, Va.; four brothers, Levi Albert of Elk, Wash., Russell Albert of Olympia, and Les and Howard Albert, both of Spokane; three sisters, Valerie Carpenter and Vivian Edwards, both of Spokane, and Roma Sherman of Wallace; 10 grandchildren, 22 stepgrandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Walter Wallace Spokane

Memorial Mass for Walter M. Wallace, 73, is planned for 1 p.m. May 17 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at the Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wallace, who was born in Lincoln, Neb., died Saturday.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He had lived in Spokane for 55 years and had worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 42 years.

Mr. Wallace was a member of St. Charles Parish, the Moose Lodge, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and was the director of the Mendelson Choir.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Audrey Wallace; two sons, Jeffrey Wallace of Boston and David Wallace of Spokane; a daughter, Marilee Pulsipher of Coeur d’Alene; two grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Dale Komp Spokane

Private entombment will be held for Dale F. Komp, 85, at Riverside Mausoleum. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Mount Angel, Ore., Mr. Komp died Monday.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 60 years and was a cabinet maker for Billings Sash and Door, and Spokane Woodworking company.

Mr. Komp retired after 26 years as shop foreman for The Crescent. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local No. 98.

Following his retirement, he spent six years as a volunteer at Jefferson Elementary, assisting in his wife’s classroom.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Komp; a daughter, Rosalee Gault of Seattle; two brothers, Melvin Komp of Spokane and Robert Komp of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Inez Rogers of Pullman; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ezra Bogue Spokane

Memorial service for Ezra M. Bogue, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Hill Christian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Bogue, a 51-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

He was born in Ravenwood, Mo.

In Spokane, he had worked for the Davenport Hotel and in heavy construction. He also spent 19 years as custodian of North Hill Christian Church.

Mr. Bogue served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Christian Church and attended North Hill Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Bogue; a son, Ron Bogue of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Wilson of Spokane; two sisters; three brothers; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Dale Kohler Okanogan, Wash.

Service for Dale L. Kohler, a member of the Colville (Wash.) Business Council, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Mission on the campus of Paschal Sherman Indian School near Colville. Burial will be at the Hall Creek Cemetery in Inchelium, Wash. Precht-Harrison Funeral Chapel in Omak, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kohler, 59, died Monday.

He was born in Colville and grew up on a ranch in Inchelium near the Colville Indian Reservation and graduated from high school in Inchelium.

He graduated from Whitworth College and Gonzaga School of Law and practiced law in Omak. He was a member of the federal, state and tribal bar associations.

Mr. Kohler is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Autumn Kohler of Okanogan and Jackie Timentwa of Seattle; a son, Perry Wilson of Pullman; his mother, Irene Kohler of Inchelium; two brothers, Gary Kohler of Inchelium and Dennis Kohler of Yakima; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle.

Rich Pockert Sr. Leaburg, Ore.

Graveside service for Rich Pockert Sr., 51, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Buell Chapel in Springfield, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pockert, a former Spokane and Yakima resident, died Monday.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from University High School. He received degrees from Eastern Washington University in accounting and business.

Mr. Pockert served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had worked for Old Milwaukee Railroad in the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Pockert moved to Yakima 11 years ago and to Oregon seven years ago, where he worked for the University of Oregon.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Pockert of Nampa, Idaho, and John Pockert of Spokane; a daughter, Jennifer Miller of Spokane; his mother, Katheryn Schaefer of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Pat Leisher of Colorado Springs and DeAnn Oien of Eatonville, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

Mary Pynn Spokane

Memorial service for Mary Jane Pynn, 78, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Sans Souci Recreational Center. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pynn, who was born in Wallace, died Tuesday.

She grew up in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Pynn worked for the telephone company and as a counselor at Edgecliff Rehabilitation Center.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the VASA Swedish Club.

Mrs. Pynn is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Pynn of Spokane; three sons, William and David Pynn, both of Spokane, and Mark Pynn of Sun Valley, Idaho; a daughter, Mary Beth Massie of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Edward Wells Spokane

Vigil service for Edward R. Wells, 85, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Wells, a longtime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in Linnton, Ore., and moved to Spokane in 1954 from West Linn, Ore. He sold insurance for the Knights of Columbus for five years and then worked in retail. He retired from The Bon Marche.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and St. Charles Parish.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angeline Wells; a son, Robert Wells of Spokane; two daughters, Patricia Ann Arkills of Yakima and Kathleen Cardinal of Spokane; a sister, Virginia Eades of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Spokane.

Sandra Gardner Deer Park

Service for Sandra Lee Gardner, 51, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Inurnment will be at the the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gardner, who died April 17, was born in Columbus, Wis.

She graduated from high school in Wisconsin and had lived in Deer Park since 1967.

She worked as a Solutions Room para-educator at Arcadia Middle School in Deer Park.

Mrs. Gardner was a Campfire Leader and had served in the Navy from 1964 to 1967 as a dental technician. She was a member of the Deer Park Eagle’s Lodge Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Bill Gardner; a son, Scott Gardner, and a daughter, Brooke Gardner, both of Issaquah, Wash.; a sister, Bonnie Gagliano of Mosinee, Wis.; and a granddaughter.

Beulah ‘Billie’ Deatherage Spokane

Memorial service for Beulah M. “Billie” Deatherage, 88, is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at the Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Deatherage, who was born in Lakota, N.D., died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for 50 years and had worked as a waitress at the Coach House Restaurant.

Mrs. Deatherage was a member of the Cathedral of our Lady of Lourdes.

Her husband, Rolland Deatherage, died in 1952.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Nielsen, and a son, Jerry Deatherage, both of Spokane; a sister, Wilma Maddan of Spokane; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society-Inland Northwest Chapter.

Katharine Scholz Diamond, Wash.

Memorial service for Katharine Anderson Scholz, 91, and a lifetime Whitman County resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash.

Mrs. Scholz, who died Wednesday, was born on the family farm near Colfax.

She married Ernest Scholz Sr. in 1925 and they moved to Diamond, where they farmed until they retired. Her husband died in 1985.

Mrs. Scholz was a member of Colfax United Methodist Church and the Parvin Grange.

Survivors include a son, Ernest Scholz Jr. of Colfax; two daughters, Juanita Morasch of Colfax and Dolores Salisbury of Edmonds, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Colfax Cemetery Tree Fund or the Colfax United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Tony Smalley Creston, Wash.

Memorial service for Tony L. Smalley will be at 7 p.m. today at the Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smalley, who died Tuesday, was 31.

He was born in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Post Falls High School. He lived in Spokane until he moved to Creston, Wash., in 1995.

In Spokane, he had worked for Utter Cadillac in the body shop and as a bartender at several bars.

Mr. Smalley is survived by his mother, Sondra Lema of Spokane; his father, Dennis Smalley of Athol, Idaho; a sister, Tina Hooper of Post Falls; and his grandparents, Lionel and Iona “Onie” Miller of Post Falls.

Vernon Anderson Spokane

Graveside service for Vernon H. Anderson, 74, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph Cemetery in Trentwood. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who died April 8, was born in Cumberland, Wis.

He had owned a trucking company in Cumberland and moved to Spokane 15 years ago, where he owned Geronimo Mining Co. of Spokane.

He was an Army veteran.

Mr. Anderson is survived by a son, Jerome Anderson of Lompoc, Calif.

Faye Moss Spokane

Service for Faye (Branenburg) Moss, 77, is set for 1 p.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private entombment will be at Pines Mausoleum.

Mrs. Moss, who died Tuesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She graduated from North Central High School and in 1942, she married Ray Moss Sr.

She had worked for M&M Ticket Agency for several years as a reservationist and was a member of the Ding-a-Lings, a local ceramics group.

Mrs. Moss is survived by her husband of 54 years; a son, Ray Moss Jr. of Spokane; two brothers, Lloyd Branenburg of Spokane and Dutch Branenburg of Ridgefield, Wash.; a sister, Viola Hoppe of Beaverton, Ore.; and one grandson.

Ralph Crook Spokane

Memorial service for Ralph Robert Crook, 69, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Community Bible Chapel. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crook, who died Tuesday, was born in Tekoa, Wash.

In 1948, he married Patricia Mae Hawk and they settled in Spokane.

Mr. Crook worked for the Northern Pacific and Union Pacific railroads.

He went to work for the City of Spokane water department in 1968, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Crook is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Mae; six sons, Robert Crook of Minnesota, and William, Leroy, Terry, Dean and Thomas Crook, all of Spokane; a daughter, Judith Eastwood of Spokane; 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Leon A. Hazelton Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Leon A. Hazelton, 85, will be today at 3 p.m. at the Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section, in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hazelton, who was born in Hayden Lake, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and worked at Northwest Lumber. He also operated pleasure boats on Lake Coeur d’Alene for John Finney in the 1950s.

Mr. Hazelton had worked as a janitor for the Coeur d’Alene Eagles, Elks and Safeway.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Emma; two sons, Richard Hazelton of Coeur d’Alene and Rod Hazelton of Hayden Lake; a brother, Roy Hazelton of Walla Walla; a sister, Bev Tyree of Boise; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Vera Broderick Coeur d’Alene

A celebration of life gathering for Vera M. Broderick, 93, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Forest Place Retirement Home at 2340 Seltice Way in Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Broderick, who was born in Minnesota, died Saturday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1935 and owned a Merle Norman Studio in Spokane for 50 years. She was a member of the Spokane Figure Skating Club.

Mrs. Broderick was preceded in death by three husbands, Donald MacDonald, Newt Wakefield and Justin Broderick.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Rasmussen of Seattle; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Anna Tierney Gresham, Ore.

Burial Mass for Anna Elizabeth (Carstens) Tierney, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Reardan, Wash. Private burial will be at Springcreek Cemetery in Reardan. Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tierney, a former Reardan resident, died Tuesday in Gresham where she had lived since last year.

She was born in Reardan and attended North Central High School in Spokane.

She moved to Oregon in 1962 and worked as a seamstress for Meier and Frank Department Store.

In 1935, she married Harold Tierney in Spokane. He died in 1968.

Mrs. Tierney is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Leslie of Gresham; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Adalgisa DeCaro Spokane

Family rosary for Adalgisa DeCaro, 96, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Italy, Mrs. DeCaro died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for 48 years, and was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony’s Parish.

Her husband, Serafino DeCaro, died in 1967.

Mrs. DeCaro is survived by two sons, Joseph and Silvio DeCaro, both of Spokane; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
