WSU Camp To Be Rededicated As It Starts Year-Round Mission

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 40-acre camp owned by Washington State University will be rededicated to its mission of serving vulnerable youth at an open house on Saturday.

The 40-acre Camp Roger C. Larson is located on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, near Worley, Idaho. It opened in 1950 and was known as Camp Easter Seal before it was renamed by WSU regents in honor of founding director Roger Larson of the College of Education faculty.

It has been used each summer by campers, primarily disabled children. It is being renovated to become a year-round educational and recreational community, according to camp director Geoff Wood.

The change is aided by grants from Washington Water Power and GTE, and cooperation with social agencies and local schools.

Former campers, counselors, faculty and volunteers are especially invited to attend Saturday’s event. Camp crafts, boating and lunch will be offered. To RSVP, call (509) 335-2407.
