Mocs’ Mccarthy Quits

Mac McCarthy resigned as Chattanooga basketball coach, four months after taking the Mocs to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

McCarthy said it was time for him to “pursue another direction.” Associate head coach Henry Dickerson will take over the basketball program on an interim basis.

Arizona State shooting guard Gee Gervin, the son of former NBA star George Gervin, has decided to transfer to San Jacinto Junior College in Texas in order to get more playing time and to play point guard.

Gervin, who would have been a junior, averaged only five minutes per game over the last five games of the 1996-97 season.
