Herbert Denny Tekoa, Wash.

A celebration to honor Herbert “Bert” Benton Denny’s 100th birthday will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tekoa Care Center, where he lives.

Mr. Denny was born Aug. 12, 1897, in Lewiston, the first of Thomas and Susie (Bell) Denny’s eight children.

In 1917, he graduated from Lapwai High School and attended Cheney Normal School, now Eastern Washington University.

After he and Clara VanBuren of Ritzville, Wash., were married in 1928, they farmed in the Inland Northwest communities of Farmington, Wash., Medical Lake and, from 1960 until his retirement, Plummer, Idaho. His son, Jack Denny, now farms that land.

He and Mrs. Denny had been married for 67 years.

She died in 1995.

The Dennys had six children: Wayne Denny, Spokane; Melvin Denny, Hardin, Mont.; Dean Denny, Rosalia, Wash.; Jack Denny and Donna Broadsword, both of Plummer, and Dixie Kukuk, North Bend, Wash.
