Three Spokane Golfers Win In Junior Amateur

Three Spokane area golfers Wednesday advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 43rd Annual Pacific Northwest Junior Boys Amateur Championship being played at the Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington, Wash.

Jared Herling of Downriver defeated Robert Selland of Wandermere 2 and 1, Matt Kodama of Wandermere topped Corey Prugh of Manito 6 and 5, and Reid Hatley of Manito defeated John Cassidy of Nisqually Valley 5 and 4.

Prugh was a co-medalist during the qualifying round. Kodama was 5 up at the turn after shooting a one-under-par 35. He was even par when the match ended on the 13th hole.

Track and field

Calvin Brown, 60, of Spokane was the winner of the 60-and-over 20,000-meter men’s race walk at the National Masters Track and Field Championships in San Jose, Calif., Sunday. Brown’s winning time was 2 hours, 10 minutes, 19 seconds as he bested a field of 17 men.
