Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I keep a file on the many useful hints I’ve employed from your column. Here is one of mine:

I never bake a single batch of cookies. For the same work and very little extra time I can produce double the amount.

However, with the four cooling racks I own there is still not enough space to cool huge amounts of cookies before storing. Rather than purchase more racks and since I only use one oven rack to bake a single cookie sheet at a time, I found the unused rack (a large one) will accommodate all the cookies. There’s no need to keep shifting the cooled cookies to make room for the hot ones. - Lydia Thalheimer, Phoenix

Dear Heloise: I cannot take credit for this idea. I’m just reporting one that I saw in a mall parking lot: using old large men’s knit shirts as seat covers on the backs of bucket seats. Isn’t that a neat idea?

If you have a favorite high school or baseball or football team, you could use their jerseys. - Sandra Kuch, West Newton, Pa.
