Kehoe Extradition Hearing Delayed
The extradition hearing for one of two brothers accused of shooting at Ohio police officers during a traffic stop was postponed Friday.
Cheyne Kehoe, who is in custody in Washington, is fighting transfer to Ohio.
Spokane County Superior Court Judge Richard Schroeder granted his lawyer, John Rodgers, a one-week extension to give Kehoe more time to find an attorney in Ohio.
Kehoe, 21, and his brother Chevie Kehoe, 24, both of Colville, are accused in shootings that occurred minutes apart Feb. 15 near Wilmington, Ohio, about 50 miles northeast of Cincinnati.
The first was captured by a dashboard camera in a state highway patrol cruiser and later broadcast across the nation.
It is unclear why Cheyne Kehoe is fighting extradition, since he surrendered three months later.
Chevie Kehoe was arrested in Utah the day after his brother surrendered and was being held in Wilmington pending trial Sept. 22.
The brothers are charged with attempted murder of a police officer, felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. The officers were not wounded.
Police say the Kehoes were pulled over for having expired license plates.
Cheyne Kehoe is accused of firing at a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy. Authorities said both men then fled, and Chevie Kehoe is accused of firing at two police officers a few minutes later.
