Rampaging Phillies Slam Giants
Major League roundup
Newcomer Billy McMillon and Mike Lieberthal became the first Phillies to hit grand slams in the same game in 76 years as Philadelphia routed the visiting San Francisco Giants 12-3 Monday night.
McMillon, obtained from Florida on July 21 for Darren Daulton, was playing his first game for Philadelphia. He was recalled from Triple-A Scranton before the game.
After singling in the second, McMillon came up with the bases loaded and two outs in the third, and lined a grand slam to right off Mark Gardner (12-7) to put Philadelphia ahead 4-0. It was his first major league homer.
Lieberthal hit his first career grand slam in the sixth off reliever Terry Mulholland to make it 10-2. The last time two Phillies hit grand slams in a game was April 28, 1921, when Ralph Miller and Lee Meadows connected against the Boston Braves.

Errors by Florida infielders Edgar Renteria and Bobby Bonilla in the seventh inning helped Pittsburgh score three runs on the way to its victory over Florida.
