Quinn’s Divorce Case Settled

Actor Anthony Quinn settled his divorce case Tuesday for an undisclosed sum, just hours after his son testified that Quinn abused his wife during their 31-year marriage.

A hearing to decide how to divide up Quinn’s estate Monday sullied the reputations of the 82-year-old silver-haired movie legend and his second wife, Iolanda, 62, who raised three children with Quinn.

The settlement was struck shortly after 2 a.m. and the terms were not disclosed, said Raoul Felder, the lawyer for Mrs. Quinn.

He said his client was “very satisfied. She doesn’t want to gloat, but she’s very happy.”

Quinn’s lawyer, Barry Slotnick, suggested his client may now go ahead and marry Kathy Benvin, 35, the mother of his two youngest children. Slotnick said Quinn “is now shopping for a tuxedo because his next event will probably be at a chapel.”

Quinn, a two-time Academy Award winner who has fathered 13 children by two wives and three mistresses, said after court Monday that he was more interested in keeping his art collection than cash.

The settlement followed a day of angry charges in court from both sides.

The highlight came when 33-year-old Danny Quinn of Los Angeles accused his father of abusing his mother by hitting her and shouting obscenities.

The younger Quinn said he never tried to stop the abuse of his mother, which took place 20 years ago, because he was young and thought if he tried to interfere or call police, “My father would have killed me.”

During his testimony, his father used felt-tipped pens to draw a picture of an angry woman on a piece of paper that he later showed reporters.

“I love my sons. I love every child I ever had,” Quinn told reporters outside court. He suggested that Danny Quinn see a psychiatrist.

Quinn said it was “very painful” to watch his family fight over a multimillion-dollar estate that includes property and a Picasso painting.

“I wanted to settle last week,” he said. “I had 50 years of life before I met this lady, including five children.”
