Idaho Minimum Wage To Increase Sept. 1
The Idaho Department of Labor said changes in Idaho’s minimum wage law will go into effect Sept. 1, increasing the minimum wage to $5.15 per hour.
The increase represents a 40 cent hike from the $4.75 per hour state minimum wage which has been in place since April 1 of this year. The Sept. 1 increase coincides with a 40 cent increase in the federal minimum wage to $5.15 per hour.
The “tip credit” which employers may claim for tipped employees also increases on Sept. 1 from 33 percent to 35 percent of the minimum wage. On that date, employers of tipped employees must pay a cash wage of $3.35 per hour, which is up from the $3.18 per hour cash wage paid to tipped employees prior to Sept. 1.
If an employee’s tips combined with the employer’s cash wage do not equal the minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.
