Bobcats Edge Bulldogs With Second-Half Surge

Montana State scored eight straight points midway through the second half Tuesday night and went on to hold off Gonzaga 73-68 in women’s college basketball at Martin Centre.

All five MSU starters scored in double figures, while Sydney Person and Lydia Ledgerwood accounted for almost half of Gonzaga’s points, scoring 19 and 14, respectively.

Both teams saw their records move to 2-2.

Montana State led 30-29 after a first half in which neither team led by more than five points.

The Bobcats were clinging to a 45-44 advantage at the 12-minute, 32-second mark of the second half when Shanna Smith wrapped a pair of 3-point jump shots around a pair of Allison Bach free throws to make it 53-44.

Shelley Massingale’s two free throws with 20 seconds to play provided the winning points as the Sasquatch outlasted the Central Washington JV at Ellensburg.

Massingale, whose layup broke a 54-54 tie with 1 minute, 44 seconds to play, finished with 15 points as Community Colleges of Spokane improved its record to 3-1. The Sasquatch have been beaten only by North Idaho.

Central Washington’s Cherae Walker led both teams with 29 points.
