Boise State’s Nutt Interviews At Arkansas
The first man to interview for the job of head football coach at the University of Arkansas quickly shunned the front-runner label.
“Not at all, not at all,” Boise State coach Houston Nutt said Wednesday, shortly before meeting with members of a search committee. “I think that you get labeled sometimes. Two or three weeks ago, my name wasn’t even mentioned.
“So I think that you are going to hear a lot of things now until the selection committee makes a decision,” Nutt said. “I am just one of the candidates now.”
Athletic Director Frank Broyles fired Danny Ford on Saturday, and a list of about 30 candidates was quickly pared to six. By Tuesday, Nutt had emerged as the leading candidate.
But at a news conference late Wednesday afternoon, Broyles also sought to discount reports that a choice had been made.
“No coach has been named,” Broyles said.
Jeff Bower’s name was back in the mix Wednesday, and others remained on the periphery. The Southern Mississippi coach told the Hattiesburg American that Arkansas had asked him to interview.
There were indications the interview process could continue through the weekend.
