Obituaries

Clara Orvis Spokane

Visitation for Clara Marie Orvis, 87, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Church of God Seventh-day.

Mrs. Orvis, who was born in Bisbee, N.D., died Monday.

She graduated from Slayton High School in Slayton, Minn.

In 1927 she married Ollie Orvis in Minnesota and they moved to Spokane in 1944.

Mrs. Orvis worked as an aide for many local nursing homes and retired in 1973 from Riverview Terrace Retirement Center.

She was a volunteer for the Spokane Filter Center and as a Gray Lady for the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Mrs. Orvis was a member of the Church of God Seventh-day.

Her husband died in 1995.

She is survived by three sons, Earl Orvis of Spokane, Donald Orvis of Otis Orchards and Frank Orvis of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Ann Thompson of Spokane and Linda Reed of San Antonio; a sister, Ella McKeown of San Diego; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Rosanna Graham Colville, Wash.

Rosary service for Rosanna M. Graham, 89, will be at 6 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville. Graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Colville.

Mrs. Graham, who was born in Genesee, Idaho, died Monday.

She married Charles Graham in 1930, and they lived in Scappose, Ore. She worked for a bank there, before she and her husband moved to Longview and Kelso, Wash., and then to Portland.

Mrs. Graham worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several banks and other companies in Portland.

In 1946 the Grahams purchased the Colville Examiner newspaper, which later merged with the Statesman-Index newspaper to become today’s Statesman-Examiner.

Mrs. Graham worked as bookkeeper for the newspaper.

She was a member of the Catholic church, Business and Professional Women of Colville, Soroptimist Club of Colville and the Stevens County Historical Society.

Her husband died in 1983.

Mrs. Graham is survived by a son, Patrick Graham of Colville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frank Kilian Spokane

Funeral Mass for Frank B. Kilian, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Kilian, who was born in Irvington, N.J., died Sunday.

He served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of Idaho.

Mr. Kilian worked as an electrical engineer with Fairchild Air Force Base until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, George Kilian of Lynnwood, Wash., and Fred Kilian of San Diego; a brother, Robert Kilian of El Cerrito, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Interfaith Hospitality Network, Habitat for Humanity Project II or to the charity of one’s choice.

Lorene Webb Spokane

Committal service for Lorene E. Webb, 76, will be at 10 a.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Webb, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Sunday.

She was a 51-year resident of Spokane and worked as a proprietor.

Her husband, Howard, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Roger Domini of Spokane; her mother, Corabel Ernest of Redding, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elbert ‘Bert’ Howard Spokane

No service will be held for Elbert “Bert” Howard, 80, at his request. Private burial was held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Howard, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He graduated in 1934 from Kingston (Idaho) High School Idaho and later from Kinman Business College.

Mr. Howard served in the Army during World War II.

He worked for Darigold in Spokane for 32 years as a residential/commercial route driver and later as a sales manager. He retired in 1973.

Mr. Howard also built many custom homes in the area and was a former municipal court judge in Grand Coulee.

His first wife of 38 years, Jean Livingston Howard, died in 1975.

In 1993 he married Jean McPherson in Loon Lake, Wash.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, JoAnn Henke of Deer Lake and Carol Galvin-Schmidt of Rosalia, Wash.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or Hospice of Spokane.

Icle Gollan Pasco

Private inurnment will be held for Icle Gollan, 99, at a later date at the Deer Park Cemetery. Mueller’s Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gollan, who was born in South Whitley, Ind., died Saturday.

She moved to Deer Park as a child and spent most of her life there. She moved to Pasco nine years ago.

Mrs. Gollan worked as a retail grocery clerk.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, church fellowship and the Civic Club.

Her husband, Rod Gollan, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gollan is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Parkhurst of Pasco; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Meyer Hayden, Idaho

No service will be held for Elizabeth L. Meyer, 78, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meyer, who was born in Minnesota, died Monday.

She moved to Hayden in 1991 from Texas and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, John Meyers of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Lynn Grenda of Post Falls; a sister, Jane Schultz of Bothell, Wash.; a brother, Edward Wegener of Alabama; and several grandchildren.

Laura Moffatt Spokane

Memorial service for Laura Ellen Moffatt, 95, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hawthorne Manor Upper Lounge. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Moffatt, who was born in Edwall, Wash., died Nov. 19.

She moved to Spokane in 1908 and graduated from North Central High School. She then graduated from Northwestern Business College of Spokane.

Miss Moffatt worked at the Palace department store, was secretary to the vice president of the Spokane and Eastern Trust Co., then worked with the Spokane County clerk’s office for 32 years.

Miss Moffatt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Esther Reed Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter.

She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews.

Ladonna Scribner Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Ladonna R. Scribner, 52, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scribner, who was born in Lewiston, died Monday.

She graduated from high school in 1963 in Asotin, Wash.

Mrs. Scribner worked for the Asotin School District until 1971 and then for Erb Hardware in Lewiston until 1977.

She moved to Spokane and worked for KXLY-TV as a bookkeeper until her retirement in November of this year.

In 1988, she married Thomas Scribner.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Clarkston, Wash.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenneth Scribner of Red Springs, N.C.; two daughters, Laurie Scribner of Tacoma and Susan Scribner of Lynden, Wash.; three brothers, George Goldner of Clarkston, Dennis Goldner of Lakewood, Wash., and Smokey Goldner of Livingston, Mont.; two sisters, Leilani Riebe of Lewiston and Judy Poland of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Sylvia ‘Dolly’ Good Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Sylvia D. “Dolly” Good, 66, will be held later at the Rathdrum (Idaho) Kingdom Hall. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Good, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She attended schools in Spokane before graduating from Reardan (Wash.) High School. She moved to Alaska in 1988, then moved to Rathdrum in 1991.

Ms. Good was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Rathdrum.

She moved to the Coeur d’Alene Rehabilitation and Wellness Center two years ago.

Survivors include a son, Gordon Good of Oregon; two brothers, Leo Collins of Oregon and Otis Clough of California; and two sisters, Murel Blackbird of Deer Park and Joyce Payment of Rathdrum.

Clara Perrin Wallace

At the family’s request, no service will be held for Clara Peters Perrin, 75. Inurnment will be held later in New Mexico. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Perrin, who was born in Salem, Mass., died Monday. She served with the Women’s Air Corps during World War II and moved to Wallace nine years ago from Texas.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Perrin was preceded in death by her husband, Cluster.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Auld of Wallace; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alice Hirschel Spokane

Funeral service for Alice M. Hirschel, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Ms. Hirschel, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Friday.

She worked in private homes tending to children and then worked for The Crescent Department Store for 24 years in merchandise pricing.

She is survived by a sister, Stella Nott of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

George Dircks Spokane

Memorial service for George L. Dircks, 52, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the family home, 4408 W. Shawnee. An Irish wake will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dircks, who was born in Watertown, S.D., died Saturday.

He was a 22-year resident of Spokane Mr. Dircks grew up in Bend and Ashland, Ore., and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a master electrician for 30 years for various companies.

Mr. Dircks was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 73.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Janet; two sons, Michael and Matthew Dircks, both of Spokane; and a brother, Greg Zeitmier of Newport, Wash.

Eleanor Bell Renton, Wash.

No service will be held for Eleanor Bell, 78, at her request.

Mrs. Bell, who was born in Philadelphia, died Sunday.

She moved to Spokane at an early age. She was a homemaker, and was also a teacher’s assistant for Spokane School District 81 for a few years.

She moved to Renton in 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Murgatroyd of Renton and Diane Randall of Colbert; a son, Michael Bell of Camas, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Seattle.

Evangeline Bolton Othello, Wash.

Memorial service for Evangeline “Angie” Bolton, 67, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Othello Nazarene Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bolton, who was born in Park, Idaho, died Friday.

She moved to Spokane in 1951 and then moved to Othello in 1971.

Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Ralph; four daughters, Sandee Patterson of Spokane, Niki Arnold of Tacoma, Cindy Hope of Otis Orchards and Dawn Paull of Salem, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Judith Bolton of Anacordis, Wash., Arlene Bolton of College Place, Wash., and Misty Bolton of Ashville, N.C.; three sons, Marvin Olson of Barrow, Alaska, Lonnie Olson of Salt Lake City and James Bolton of Mulino, Ore.; two stepsons, Dennis Bolton of Seattle and Ronald Bolton of Albion, Wash.; two brothers, Gene Gudmunson of Helmer, Idaho, and Donald Gudmunson of Colfax, Wash.; a sister, Clarice Miller of Potlatch, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Larry Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Larry P. Johnson, 57, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Johnson died Sunday.

He served in the Army and worked as a diesel master mechanic.

He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Johnson was a 35-year resident of Spokane.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marlene; a son, Robert Johnson, and a daughter, Dana Moss, both of Spokane; a sister, Patricia Tolbert of Loon Lake, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
