Utah St. Ready To Announce Pick

On the eve of a playoff game, Eastern Washington football coach Mike Kramer fended off rumors Friday that he would become the next coach at Utah State.

Kramer said from his home that he had not spoken with Utah State athletics officials about the school’s vacancy since last week.

“As far as I know, I’m not the one,” Kramer said.

On Friday, Utah State scheduled a news conference for 4:30 p.m. PST today in Salt Lake City to announce the new coach. Athletics officials said the replacement for John L. Smith will be at the news conference.

Kickoff in EWU’s NCAA Division 1-AA quarterfinal playoff game against Western Kentucky is 4 hours before the news conference.
