William Stalwick Spokane

Memorial service for William “Bill” Stalwick, 85, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mr. Stalwick, who was born in Roundup, Mont., died Friday.

He moved to Spokane with his family at age 13.

Mr. Stalwick graduated from West Valley High School.

He worked in sales at Pieroni’s Produce.

In 1946 he married Dena Southerlin.

Mr. Stalwick moved to Seattle in 1963 and returned to Spokane in 1985.

He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran.

Mr. Stalwick was a member of the Moose Lodge and the North Bowl bowling league.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Howie Stalwick of Post Falls; two sisters, Ruth Symms of Spokane and Jean Lowe of Atascadero, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Bertha Moreland Seattle

Burial service for Bertha Moreland, 83, will be 10 a.m Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. A Latin Requiem Mass will be held at the same time in El Mirage, Ariz. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moreland, who was born in Richardton, N.D., died Tuesday.

She was a 60-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Raymond Moreland, died in 1992.

Mrs. Moreland was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the American Legion.

Survivors include a son, Monte Ray Moreland of Seattle; a daughter, Elaine Turner of Suquamish, Wash.; four sisters, Ann Evans of Tacoma, Betty Barbeau of Florida, Eva Mitchell of Coos Bay, Ore., and Lorene Brown of Bentley, N.D.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Rachel Wood Spokane

Memorial service for Rachel C. Wood, 91, will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Manito Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wood, who was born in Highlands, N.C., died Thursday.

She moved with her family to Montana at a young age.

Mrs. Wood graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in education.

She taught school in Montana and Spokane and had been a Spokane resident for 53 years.

Her husband, Max Wood, died in 1982.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Manito Presbyterian Church and the American Association of University Women. She was active in giving book reports for the Northwest History and Book Sections.

Survivors include two sons, Arnold Wood of Port Townsend, Wash., and Glenn Wood of Leavenworth, Wash.; a daughter, Donna Herleikson of Camarillo, Calif.; two brothers, Albert Clark of Cutbank, Mont., and George Clark of Lewiston; two sisters, Mabel Ryan of Billings, Mont., and Ann Teigen of Teigen, Mont.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
