A-3 Wrestling

Wallace Miners

Coach: Bob Schreiber

Years coaching: 17th

Top returners: Returning state qualifier Brandon Pine, sophomore, 125. Other returner Steve Jemmings, junior, 130.

Newcomers: Jeff Sheldon, sr., 145; Christian Figura, sr., heavyweight.

Coach’s comment: “It’s a real challenge to take the kids we’ve got who are knowledgable with the sport and put them with the nine kids who are beginners.

We’re going slow, but we’ll be OK by the end of the year.”

Outlook: After ending last season with only three kids on the team, Wallace is struggling just to draw interest and support for the wrestling program. With only 14 turning out this season, the Miners will have to focus on individual improvement rather than team victories.

Kootenai Warriors

Coach: John Love

Years coaching: 2nd

Top returners: Returning state qualifier - Isaac Shannon, jr., 140. Other returners - Brady Livermore, jr., 160; J.D. Tiller, jr., 189.

Newcomers: Chris Norton, freshman, 135; Justin Lakley, frosh., 171.

Coach’s comment: “We should be improved from last year. Just experience with the veterans coming back will make the difference.”

Outlook: With a thin team and only two newcomers, the Warriors will have to concentrate on individual accomplishments. With only one state qualifier returning this season, Love’s goal is to set individual sights on state and obtain experience for his team for future improvement.
