Meeting Details Monroe Construction

From Staff And Wire Reports

Graders and bulldozers will be back for a return engagement on Monroe Street this spring.

The reconstruction of Monroe - from 400 feet north of Mallon Avenue to Maxwell Avenue - is the second phase of work started last summer, when the city rebuilt the street from Bridge to Mallon.

Residents interested in finding out more about the road construction can attend a meeting today, 4-6:30 p.m. in the Champions Room of the Spokane Arena, 720 W. Mallon.

The $735,000 project calls for ripping out asphalt and replacing the road bed, building a concrete intersection at Boone and Monroe, and replacing a 95-year-old underground water main.

About 80 percent of the money comes from federal grants.

The rest will be paid by the city’s share of the state gas tax. The water department will pay to replace the main.
