Question Posed To State Gma Hearing Board

“Should Spokane County be allowed to avoid the Growth Management process for designating mineral resource lands by simply allowing commercial mining outside of those areas?”

That’s the question Robert and Jane Salnick have posed to the state Growth Management Hearing’s Board as they and some of their Green Bluff neighbors battle a Spokane County proposal to rezone 133 acres of agriculture land to allow mining.

Two issues are being considered by the state Growth Management Hearing Board. Both deal with the legality of long term commercial excavation in rural areas outside designated mineral resource lands.

A hearing will be held Feb. 4 and the board is expected to make a decision by mid-March.

Board members for the Eastern Washington board are Skip Chilberg, Dennis Dellwo and Judy Wall.
