Lewiston Dunks Hopes Of Lake City

Lewiston’s size in the key paid off in a 61-44 victory over Lake City in a Border League boys basketball game Friday at Lake City.

The Bengals controlled the physical game throughout as they improved to 1-1 in league, 4-1 overall. LC, making its league debut, fell to 1-2.

The Bengals’ 6-foot-3 forward Jason Eck scored 26 points and pulled down 11 and teammate Carson Egland, a 6-8 center, had 15 points and 10 rebounds, including an over-the-defense slamdunk to push the Bengals to a 33-18 halftime score.

“Eck and Carson both had tremendous games,” Bengals coach Dick Richel said. “The dunk jump-started Carson.”

Egland scored seven points in the first period while dominating in the key.

The closest Lake City got was 46-36 early in the fourth quarter. T-Wolves post Justin Nipp scored a team-high 12 points.

“We played tonight how we’ve been practicing … a lot of fundamental stuff wrong,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said.

Despite two fourth quarter 3-pointers from Chad Quesnell that helped pull the Trojans within three, the Blackhawks’ late 10-point lead held up over visiting Post Falls in a Border League game.

James Kiger had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Blackhawks (3-1, 2-0). Quesnell led Post Falls (1-3, 0-2) with 21.
