Associated Press

Amy Geren scored 26 points and Natasha Anderson added 14 as Clemson opened the Atlantic Coast Conference season with a 72-61 upset of No. 11 Duke on Saturday.

Geren’s four-point play, the first in Clemson history, with 4.2 seconds in the first half put the Tigers up 30-26, a lead they would never give up.

Duke (6-2, 0-1) got within 46-44 on Lauren Rice’s two free throws with 8:23 remaining, but got no closer. Geren scored five points and Jeanette Davis added six as the Tigers extended the lead to 65-55 over the next seven minutes.

Geren finished 10 for 14 from the floor, including 4 for 4 on 3-pointers. Geren also had eight rebounds and two steals for the Tigers (5-2, 1-0).

Nicole Erickson led Duke with 13 points while Rice added 10.
