Vikings Leave State, Return With League Win

Coeur d’Alene ventured across the state line and the Vikings brought home a 71-47 victory over West Valley on Saturday in a Border League game.

The Eagles dropped to 1-3 overall and made only 4 of 18 from the foul line. Conversely, the Vikings (3-1) made 10 of 12 free throws.

Casey Hoorelbeke led the Viks with 22. Three other Vikings scored in double-digits.

The T-Wolves (2-2) beat the Knights in their Border League opener, dropping East Valley to 0-4 overall.

Chad Cheeley scored 10 first-quarter points on the way to a 28-point game. Teammate Gabe Hern added 13.

Mitch Johnson scored 17 for the Knights.

Heath Schillereff added 19 points for Wallace (3-2).

The Knights rolled over the Spartans in non-league play.

Rosalia committed 21 fouls and was smothered by Lakeside’s defense, which caused 29 turnovers.

Craig Schindler had nine rebounds and made 8 of 13 from the field in leading the Spartans with 22 points.

Central Valley’s basketball season began late because of the school’s State 4A football championship.

Once the Bears made it to the court for the first time, North Central made them stay longer.

Todd Millar hit a 3-pointer with 45 seconds left in overtime and Marc Hinckley added crucial free throws as the Bears squeaked by the Indians in a Greater Spokane League game at NC.

Hinckley hit 1 of 2 free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to force OT. He added two free throws, for a five-point lead, after Millar’s 3-pointer.

Chris Allen and Chris Blotsky combined for 43 points on 15-for-38 shooting from the field for NC (0-3, 0-1).
