Odessa Holds Line On Perfection

Maybe first-year coach Myron Kramer is sneaking footballs onto the basketball court.

Kramer, Odessa High’s successful veteran football coach, has the basketball team off to a 4-0 start after Saturday’s 48-46 Bi-County League win over visiting Ritzville (1-3, 1-1).

Ryan Floch scored eight fourth-quarter points as Odessa, 2-0 in the league, withstood Ritzville’s rally. The Tigers led 42-30, but Dustan Arlt scored 11 of his 22 in the fourth quarter as the Bronocs caught up.

Ritzville led 12-2 before Odessa scored 40 of the next 58 points.

Odessa, a fixture in football playoffs, hasn’t played at the State B basketball tourney in eight years.

At Wilbur, Mike Samuels hit two free throws with five seconds left for a four-point lead and added 12 rebounds to guide the Wildcats (1-4, 1-1) over the visiting Patriots (3-2, 0-2).

Samuels finished 7 of 18 from the field. Joe Bell scored 20 on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor for CH, which never led in the fourth quarter. The Patriots lost to Odessa, also 51-50, Friday night.
